That means the main routes linking the north, centre and south of the country now have reliable high-power charging at motorway services. For a trip based in Pombal, the practical reality is simple:

Start with the Castelo de Pombal (10 min) — a 12th-century Templar castle above the town. Day 2 — Coimbra and the Bussaco forest (~45 min and ~65 min)

Fátima (~45 min) is the region’s most-visited sanctuary and a profound stop for many travellers. Afterwards, take the A8 towards the coast: the beaches at Praia do Osso da Baleia (~38 min from Abiul), Figueira da Foz (~47 min) or Nazaré (~65 min) for the famous waves. Practical notes

• Tolls — the A1/A8 are toll motorways; payment by card or Via Verde (electronic tag) at the gantries. Non-toll routes exist but are slower.
• Parking — Coimbra and Fátima have well-signposted parking; in Coimbra’s historic centre, park at the riverside lots and walk up.
• Speed and cameras — motorways 120 km/h, national roads 90/100 km/h; speed cameras are common on the A1.
